Bill of Rights Essay Contest 2009-2010

Deadline: Essays must be received by March 30, 2010.
Rules: Arkansas students in grades 7-12 are eligible. Essays must be no more than 750 words and should be typed. Essays will be judged on soundness of reasoning, clarity of writing and understanding of the subject matter, not viewpoint.
Prizes: 1st Place $500
2nd Place $300
3rd Place $100

Each essay must include:

  1. Complete Name
  2. Mailing Address
  3. Home Phone
  4. Grade
  5. School Name, Address and Phone
  6. If possible, email address

Note: Putting the information just on the outside envelope for several essays is not sufficient.

ESSAY TOPIC: Do you think that the Supreme Court decision saying school officials could not require students to say the Pledge of Allegiance should be overturned?

Winners will be announced by May 1, 2010. The winners’ names and essays will be made available to local and statewide newspapers, as well as radio and television stations. Call (501) 374-2660 if you have questions. Essays will not be returned, so be sure to keep a copy. Also, we unfortunately are not able to notify nonwinners or acknowledge non-winning entries unless you provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope or postcard.
