LITTLE ROCK — The American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas released the following statement from Holly Dickson, ACLU of Arkansas Executive Director, responding to Governor Sanders' rebuttal to the State of the Union address:
“Governor Sanders' rebuttal to the State of the Union Tuesday stoked fear and hate. Her remarks echoed the hate we’ve seen in much of the legislation proposed this session from some Arkansas politicians. The ACLU of Arkansas believes that our nation and our state should protect the rights and civil liberties of all our citizens. Arkansans don’t want to foot the bill for more harmful policies and should not have to suffer the harmful effects of such proposed or passed legislation in any way. Before deciding or signing any bills affecting our civil liberties, we ask that Governor Sanders consult with those who will be most affected by the legislation. We hope to see our Governor ensure the rights promised to all of us are a reality for all Arkansans and we are committed to helping ensure this is done.”
