The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Arkansas is pleased to announce the hiring of Shelby Shroff as a new staff attorney and Hadiyah Cummings as a legal fellow. Both bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for civil liberties to their respective roles.

About Shelby Shroff

Shroff earned her Bachelor's Degree from Hendrix College, followed by a Master's in Education from Hunter College. She then pursued a Juris Doctorate from the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Before joining the ACLU, Shelby served as a law clerk for Judge Kristine G. Baker at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Most recently, she worked as an attorney at Wright, Lindsey & Jennings, LLP. Shelby’s background as a teacher and school administrator has equipped her with a unique perspective on civil rights and education law.

"I am extremely honored to join the ACLU of Arkansas," Shroff said. "This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a team that stands at the forefront of defending justice, equality, and freedom for all, and I am excited to contribute to this work."

About Hadiyah Cummings

Cummings, a recent Yale Law School graduate, is currently serving as a Legal Fellow with the ACLU of Arkansas, focusing on advancing racial and social justice in her home state. During her time at Yale, Hadiyah was deeply involved in public service, including internships with the ACLU and the MacArthur Justice Center. She actively participated in Yale’s Criminal Justice Clinic and Access to Law School Clinic and founded “Reinvest in Conway,” a campaign aimed at reimagining and improving public safety. A former Northeast pre-law director for the National Black Law Students Association, Cummings has also built an online platform supporting over 25,000 first-generation, low-income, and BIPOC pre-law students.

"I am dedicated to creating transformative change and fostering equity within the legal profession," Cummings said. "It is a privilege to contribute to the ACLU's mission to uphold everyone's civil rights here in Arkansas."

John Williams, Legal Director at the ACLU of Arkansas, commented, "We are thrilled to welcome both Shelby and Hadiyah to our team. Their dedication to civil rights and public service will greatly enhance our ability to address critical legal and social issues in our state."

Both Shroff and Cummings will begin their duties effective immediately.
